Talented artist, Tunji Onigbanjo – otherwise known as Lawyartist had his first exhibition ‘NEON’ on the 9th & 10th of December, 2017.
Lawyartist as his moniker implies, is a hybrid of an active lawyer and a budding artist. He has gained international recognition in the art world online with a steadily growing social media following. Neon TheExhibition took place at the 16 by 16 gallery in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The exhibition was not your typical art exhibition, there was a private viewing session, an urban jazz session which was curated by AYE! with support from Idris King, JazzZ Atta and the audience. Lawyartist also painted live and invited guests to be a part of the process. It was truly an interactive exhibition.
Neon The Exhibition highlighted contemporary art pieces from Lawyartist as well as pieces from some ofhis artist friends like Niyi Okeowo, Yasmin Damulak, Oshomah, Maureen and Tofunmee.
Speaking on the exhibition, Tunji (Lawyartist) stated “I explored my mind and really tested my patience to come up with a new style.”
Tushar Hathiramani, owner of the space 16/16, claims that the collaboration is one of the central tenets of the space and that this collaboration highlighted just how interest for contemporary pop art in Nigeria has spiked in recent years.
